Hello, I'm Tatiana.

I have always been a dreamer. Since I learned to read, I loved to read and imagine how different stories unfolded and how it would feel like. On one hand, it motivated me to search for happiness and not give up, on the other hand, it separated me from reality. I know that reality can be painful! However, escape into fantasy world has its down sides, too.

I dreamed a lot, and all my understanding of the world came from books, movies, TV shows. I learned tons of information and developed interest in different cultures because a lot of what I read about and saw on TV was not like my own life in post-Soviet Russia at all. At the same time, this knowledge did not make living real life with real people around me easier. They had very different point of reference for almost everything, and it made relationships difficult.

In my young adulthood, I was highly educated and knowledgeable about a lot of things: history, various cultures, different languages, but I did not know anything about real life unfolding around me. I had almost no skills in navigating the world I was living in. The real world.

I did not have any help in navigating the reality because people around me were as ignorant about it as I was. Some of them were as young and inexperienced as I was, others just lost the only life they knew: Soviet Union had ended, and they did not know how to adapt to this new life that was beginning. I imagine that you may not be familiar with that reality, but I am sure that you know this feeling of utter confusion that I am trying to describe.

I am not saying that right then and there I decided that I want to become this guide who knows how to navigate real life, separate it from fantasy, and still be happy for other people because I did not. It came to me years later when I started to reflect on all the difficulties I had to overcome, and when I realized how many beliefs and ideas about the world that I had had nothing to do with reality.

Now I can confidently say that I can be the guide in navigating real life for other people. People who have had very different experiences from mine, and who come from different cultures. Over the years, I learned that culture is just an icing on the cake, it is the top of an iceberg, and deeper emotional experiences people have are all the same. We all experience joy and happiness, we feel anger and sadness. Those feelings can be caused by different things, they can have particular nuances in each individual situation, but they are still part of the experience of being human. Something that unites us despite our differences!

My particular specialty in focusing my counseling work in helping women survivors of childhood sexual abuse came after the start of my counseling career when I realized how prevalent and present in society the problem of child abuse was. I realized that I wanted to do what I could to help women heal from that pain and find their voice and their power. Since I have been working with those women, my desire to help them grew even stronger. Nobody should be left behind suffering!

My Professional Background

I have always loved to learn, so I have used any opportunity for further education. This is why I decided to only describe here main stations on my educational journey. In 2004, I obtained my degree in business. In 2006, I received a degree in linguistics. Yes, I worked on both at the same time! It was exhausting!

After graduating, I started my career as an interpreter. It was a good career, and I still enjoy translating every once in a while, but it was not satisfying enough. So, in my free time I tried out many different professions. While doing that, I learned a lot of various things and expanded on my interest in people, which turned into a decision to get a degree in counseling in 2015.

I obtained that degree from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota in 2017. After getting my degree, I started my private practice in Minnesota and got my LPC license in 2018. In September 2018, I decided to move to Oregon, and it turned out that licensure requirements are different in each state. So, I had to take a few courses, and started working under supervision again.

So, this is why my official title is: Tatiana Morris, MA, LPC (MN), LPC Intern (OR). Long and confusing. Eventually, it will change. My supervisors for Oregon Registered Internship are Gina Lisiecki, LPC and Dr. Lisa Aasheim, LPC

My Approach

I specialize in deep healing. This process involves paying attention to all sorts of influences to the development of the current problem including personal beliefs and values, beliefs and values of your family of origin (even if on the conscious level you don't agree with them) and ones of the culture you grew up in.

From my personal and professional experience, I know that our beliefs and values are shaped on all those levels. It is very important to bring awareness to the unconscious beliefs laying in roots of the issue, connect the past with the present and heal it by providing compassionate and non-judgmental presence to the wound.

This is why I prefer doing long-term therapy. It is difficult to heal quickly something that was building for a long time.

During online therapy sessions, I connect directly to the emotional experiences of people I work with. We do not just talk, we feel, we experience things together. I am able to feel other people's emotions in my own body, and it helps to discuss and deeper understand them.

My therapy style is direct, so I challenge people to see the reality even if it is not a nice one. Sometimes fantasy world is a great escape from emotional pain, but only acceptance of the reality brings a long-term relief. I know that from experience. I like treating people once and for all, so I like providing a lot of tools to increase their emotional independence and confidence.

I love mindfulness exercises and techniques because they help people to connect with themselves on a deeper level. I know from my own experience that mindfulness allows us to learn our truths that are hidden in our emotional responses to various situations.

Something Personal About Me

As I mentioned earlier, I love to learn. I am curious about the world, and I am fascinated by its mysteries. To me, people are a part of this world, and they cause my curiosity, too. You probably guessed that by now.

I love traveling. It involves doing all the things I enjoy: exploring and trying new things, meeting new people, speaking different languages and feeling free.

While traveling, I love taking pictures of nature. I believe they create amazing memories that are delightful to revisit.

I hate routine. I find it extremely limiting. This why I love changes every once in a while. Especially changes in location... Hmm, seems like I am back to traveling here. Well, I have a few passions, but they run deep and they are all connected. You get the picture.

Why work with me?

I offer online counseling for depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, childhood trauma, and relationship issues for individuals and couples in Minnesota, Oregon and internationally.

My schedule is flexible, and we can meet at convenient times including in the evenings and on weekends.

My scheduling system understands different time zones.

I use English, Russian, Spanish and French in my work.

I look forward to getting to know you and help you create the life you want!
